FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
On this page we will be answering all the most frequently asked questions we get from visitors to our site and users of our software. If you have a question not answered here, please email use at post@PictureMuncher.com and we'll try to give you as much help as we can.
| Is Picture Muncher a porn downloader? | |
Not exclusively, no, but it would be foolish for us to pretend that Picture Muncher cannot be used to download adult content from the web. It can. However, you can already freely visit porn sites using any browser, so freedom of choice has to come into it - if you want to find adult material, you'll find it, with your browser or with Picture Muncher.
Picture Muncher can download ANY pictures from ANY site, and it's up to you to block out porn sites with the many 'net nanny' programs available, if you want such sites to be excluded from your internet use.
Do we encourage you to use Picture Muncher to download porn? We encourage you to use Picture Muncher to do whatever you want to do with it. We just want you to use it, end of story!
If you want software which specialises in the download of adult material, we recommend you use Porn Muncher. If you've already used Picture Muncher, it will be strangely familiar!
| | How much will it cost me every month? | |
Nothing. Once you've registered (and the cost for that is low), you pay nothing else. No subscriptions, not ever. The pictures you download are all free - web sites add loads more pictures all the time, so you just need something to find them, which is what Picture Muncher does. To put this into context, while we were developing Picture Muncher we managed to download almost 2 million pictures - around 90 gigabytes - and yes we do have broadband! You can get all that with Picture Muncher, for a once-only registration. Why pay monthly fees when it's all there for free?
| | Aren't these pictures protected by copyright? | |
Almost certainly. Practically all the pictures you will download, with whatever software you use, are protected by copyright. NASA web sites seem to be an exception - as a US government agency they make their pictures freely available. We do NOT encourage copyright violations, and we strongly suggest that you use Picture Muncher only as a tool to find pictures, download them for viewing, and then you should either delete them or seek the copyright owner's permission to use them in whatever way you need.
Picture Muncher downloads only from publicly available web pages, or from 'members' pages where you have the correct password (and so have permission to visit), so if you were going to visit the page anyway using a web browser, Picture Muncher gives you an alternative way to view the pictures on a web site.
Generally, web sites won't really mind if you download pictures and save them on your computer to view later. In fact if you do that you're saving their bandwidth - multiple visits cost them money - so copying for offline browsing is often accepted. However, it's still technically illegal in that you are making copies.
Whatever you do, do NOT use Picture Muncher to download pictures and give them to friends or (much worse!) sell them to anyone else. Stay within the laws of your country, and you won't have a lawyer's letter arriving at your house!
| | Is Picture Muncher a file swapper like Kazaa? | |
No. You cannot upload anything, and you will not be able to share the pictures you download, using Picture Muncher. Picture Muncher works like a specialist web browser, finding pictures and downloading them from web pages. The owners of the pictures will have put the pictures there, so they are legally publishing them. Do not try to share the pictures you download, using Kazaa or anything similar. If you don't own the copyright, you'll be breaking the law.
